Oprah’s 24th Season Kick Off Party with Black Eye Peas, Jennifer Hudson, Rascal Flatts, and others

What a great experience it was to participate in Oprah’s 24th season kick off party. It included the Black Eye Peas, Jennifer Hudson, Rascal Flatts, and so many others in downtown Chicago on the magnificent mile ( Michigan Ave., ). My experience really lasted two days. Because the day before the show, I went to a rehearsal held by Oprah’s staff to participate in a group dance to be performed to the Black Eye Peas song “I gotta feeling.” Our mission was to learn the dance so that we could teach others at the concert. The more people that got involved, the more amazing it would look. They said we were “The Joy Embassadors.”
The rehearsal lasted from 12 noon until around 6pm that evening. Everyone there was very nice and we all did our best to get the dance down pat. It was about 600 of us strong but it look like it could have been more, who were split up into small concentrated groups to practice the dance moves with an instructor. Periodically, all of the small groups would come together and practice as a whole. And before the day was over, my group was very enthusiastic and well prepared for the show, we called ourselves Group 7 Heaven .
The next day, which was the concert, we had to arrive before 1pm to guarantee a spot near the stage. I arrived early enough and got that spot near the stage. It wasn’t the greatest spot but, it was good enough to make out all the faces on stage. As the day went on we practiced the dance more and more, and the crowd got larger and larger. Before the show kicked off, you could see the crowd was packed about half a mile down the street. When the show begain around 5pm we were ready. When Oprah introduced the Black Eye Peas, we were in formation and executed. It was amazing how everyone in the crowd, thousands of people, were in sync and knew the moves. Oprah was so surprise, excited and happy. She thought it was amazing and I am so glad to have been a part of it.
I had decided to particpate in this event because I know how Oprah does so much for people, and many people are always asking her for stuff, so I decided that I would do something to contribute to her. After all, I did get a chance to see her in person for the first time and she is very friendly and has a great personality. I also got a chance to see the Black Eye Peas and Jennifer Hudson in person, as well as network with people and gain some new fans of my own.
The only down side was that from 12pm, my arrival time, to 8pm when I left the show, I did not sit down. So I was very exhausted, and because during the shows taping we cheered a lot, when I got home, I was dead to the world. But, I guess that’s just another day in show business, and with a birhday coming real song, I must say it was a great birthday gift to myself. It was also a great learning experience. I’ll never forget it! And when the time comes for my guest appearance on Oprah, I’ll know then, what it’s like to be a member of the audience.
